Multi-modal

Multi-modal

Logistics companies and freight forwarders are increasingly looking for opportunities to reduce costs, improve service and actively reduce their impact on the environment. In doing so, many organisations are re-examining their Supply Chains in a strategic way to not only maximise benefits against costs but also to consider Corporate Social Responsibility and business continuity in the longer term. A number of factors have elevated modal shift to a topic worthy of serious consideration including a more environmentally aware society, rising fuel prices, more customer focused and competitive rail and water freight operators and heightened road congestion.

This new section of DfT´s Freight Best Practice , started in 2008, aims to build up a series of publications that help you know more about the rail and water freight industries. It will include case studies, information about available freight grants, carbon savings and much more.

Freight Facilites Grants...

Freight Facilites Grants...  ...What Can I Get?

Freight Facilities Grants are offered by the Department for Transport (DfT) to encourage businesses to move freight from road to rail or water. This requires new facilities and the high costs can put operators off making changes. The DfT offers grants to help businesses with these costs.

This quick guide gives information about how much funding is available, what it can be used for, examples of companies who have benefited and information on how to apply.
